The British Library publishes 30 years of letters between Ted Hughes and critic Keith Sagar

The British Library is to publish the correspondence between Ted Hughes and Keith Sagar for the first time in the form of a new title, Poet and Critic: The Letters of Ted Hughes and Keith Sagar, on Thursday 3 May. The collection of letters, spanning from 1969 to Hughes's death in 1998, provides a new perspective on his life and work. The book contains all 144 letters from Hughes to Sagar, interspersed with extracts from Sagar's letters. It shows a unique dialogue between a writer and a critic. Hughes describes his creative process candidly and in great depth, offering exceptional insight into the poet at work. The correspondence also covers such topics as religion, education, hunting, Hughes's travels, and his relationship with Sylvia Plath
